Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) discusses the Trump administration’s border policy, saying the WH didn’t initially intend to reunited families separated at the U.S.-Mexico border.
“I think nobody really knows where all these children are and where their parents are,” Cummings told Joe Scarborough on Wednesday’s Morning Joe. “And I don’t think — and the reason for that, Joe, is because it was never an intention from the very beginning to reunite these children with their parents. You know, something as simple as an armband like they give you when you go in a hospital — put one on a parent, put one on a child and be able to match them up. This is not rocket science.”
“Now we’re in a situation where because they did not properly plan, because they executed the zero-tolerance policy in a way that had no forethought, and as a matter of fact, it looks to me like a very mean thing that the Trump administration has done, we’ve got children who may never, sadly, be reunited with their parents. But one thing I am glad about, and that is the judge is taking a real hard line with the government and saying, you’ve got to get this done and continuing to pressure them very, very hard,” Cummings said.
